‘I was able to turn my hobby into my profession’
Nivja from ‘t Gooi has a study background as an interior design specialist. Creativity flows through her veins. From an early age, she had a pencil or brush in her hands to draw or paint. With a diploma in colour and interior stylist and decorative painter in her pocket, she joined Boerhave Medical Centre. At this plastic surgery clinic, she worked for six years as a consultant and complaints officer.
Own business in medical tattooing
Working in the plastic surgery clinic was mostly office work anyway. Nivja missed the creative aspect. Everything fell into place when she heard about medical tattooing through her work. “However, it is not common to do this work as an employee. Hence, I chose to become self-employed.” The North Holland native is the owner of Cauvern Aesthetics, a salon specialising in permanent make-up and medical tattooing. “This feels like my vocation: a profession with both artistic and medical aspects, in which I can express all my qualities and passions.”
Steering a coach in entrepreneurship
After completing the accompanying courses, Nivja started looking for work space. “I soon realised that self-employment involves a lot of things coming at you at once,” she says. To get some direction, in planning, administration and so on, she sought a business coach. That’s how she ended up at Benjijtoekomstproof.
“Entrepreneurship can be a bit uncertain. You don’t know in advance what you will bring in. If you go on holiday, you don’t get paid. It comes down to yourself if you are sick or on holiday. You have to anticipate this. It is part of the job, but my coach has given me tools to deal with this in a good way. I was able to turn my hobby into my profession. It is perhaps a cliché, but no less true for that.”
